Updated: Days of the Week by Planet Guide
Some years back (2021) I posted a simple Astro Hack: Plan Your Days of the Week by Planet blog… this is the updated version with some new nuances, tidbits and ritual Rxs.
I’m a pretty tidy witch. I like a bit of organized magic. So, although I casually live by the planetary daily rulings, I wanted to experiment with what happened if I returned to doing so intentionally. This led to a week of “back to basics”, ritually speaking. Prioritizing life in this flow was a welcome reset. I invite you to read on + find out what happens when you try it out for yourself!
⊹⊹⊹
Sunday, Ruled By The Sun
Let’s begin at the beginning… Sunday! Or do you start your week on Monday? It’s the great debate. Either way, if you live according to the planets both are beautiful portals of self-attunement.
The sun signifies the self as everything revolves around it. Often times we are starting to orient toward the week ahead. A pressure to prepare for spaces outside of ourselves may accumulate, but, it is important to prioritize tending to your Spirit, your Self, and your Soul on Sundays.
Ritual recommendation: walk the edge of “selfish” + set aside an hour of honoring you… make it personal. kitchen concert? plant walk? long drive?
Monday, Ruled By The Moon
This one is quite counter-culture. As everyone else is rushing, speeding up, contorting themselves through the transition from weekend to week the moon invites you to stay laid back.
The moon represents the emotional body and reminds us to gradually phase in or out. Even if your schedule is modern, make space on Moondays for internal activities like art, emotional wellness and creative expression.
As a SAHM, my Monday IS my Sunday. It’s my personal reset and I try not to make plans or appointments as a general rule, knowing I need a little extra padding to process what’s passed and what’s to come.
One of the moon’s other names, Luna, helps give a clue for the ruling “planet” especially when we look to other languages with the same root for the word Monday like lunes, or lundi.
Ritual recommendation: visit a body of water, opt for an herbal soak or a plant brushing… maybe make a collage or break out the colored pencils + coloring book.
Tuesday, Ruled By Mars
Now, we ramp it up.
Mars is the Roman god of war, red-hot action, and drive. I save my most difficult tasks for Tuesday, tbh. Things I need to rip the band-aid off of like that 5-minute phone call I’ve been putting off or a registration or filing a form is reserved for Tuesday.
Tyr, the norse god of justice and legal matters, is associated with this day as well — Tyr’s Day.
Ritual recommendation: light a candle, take on a challenge and do the thing.
Wednesday, Ruled By Mercury
It’s time to talk.
Mercury is the Roman equivalent of the Greek Hermes — messenger, translator and interpreter god. And yes, Mercury is the planet that notoriously retrogrades and causes crossed-wires and confusion. So, this makes a typical Wednesday an aligned window for saying the thing, reaching out, and connecting with your network.
Remember that note about looking to other cultures + languages for similar roots? It’s curious how close Mercury sounds to miércoles and mercredi — spanish and french words for Wednesday, respectively.
Ritual recommendation: burn incense or an herbal bundle to open dialogue with your spirit team and write out responses to your unread texts. Maybe if you’re feeling whimsy — write a postcard.
Thursday, Ruled By Jupiter
Jupiter, the planet, is BIG and GASSY. Therefore, Thursday is a day of expansion — especially of the mind. In astrology, it is associated with abundance, luck and generosity.
Knowing this, I like to reserve studying a new topic, going on an adventure, and tasting something new for these days. Consider paying-it-forward.
Continuing a thread of norse mythology, Thursday is named for Thor’s Day. He is their god of might and thunder. Jupiter, a god in the Roman lineage, was also a sky god.
Ritual recommendation: bibliomancy — open a book of your choice to a random page and read to learn what you need to know for the day.
Friday, Ruled By Venus
Finally, the day of the goddess.
Venus the planet represents love, beauty, and money. I wonder if this influences standard paydays… hmm.
Societally, we all feel a little more flirty, fresh, and fun on Fridays. Lean into this! Focus on playfulness, wining and dining your close relationships and amping up the aesthetics.
Other goddess of love connections include: Freyja of norse mythology and I’ve also heard it associated with Osun. Let us make the viernes/vendredi connection as well.
Ritual recommendation: luxuriate in extra-special beauty and adornment enhancements. make a floral arrangement.
Saturday, Ruled By Saturn
Leave it to Saturn to wrap it up right on time. Saturn as a planet has the reputation of “task-master”. It thrives on discipline and restriction.
When Saturday comes around, you’ll wanna GSD — get sh*t done. Run your errands, get sorted, and follow through on your responsibilities.
Ritual recommendation: organize a drawer or clear the cobwebs from a corner to keep your energy and physical space organized.
