Symbology Guide Series: Rapture Shrine
The Symbology Guide Series is an up-close look into the intentionally chosen iconography and symbolic features that make each altar shrine I craft a unique portal piece. Here we will dissect the details and explore the imagery of Rapture AKA Revelations.
This shrine moves you to escape into the dawn of rapture on chariot “horses” and merkabah vehicles of light. Float the spiral path alongside a strangely ethereal underwater guide… Let’s look at the signature symbolism embedded into this piece.
⊹⊹⊹
Violet Sea Snail
This piece was built around the background. The Violet Sea Snail’s combo of textured angelic gills, periwinkle colored spiral shell and silver chain mail bubble-esque bottom are so ethereal. Somehow the imagery hints at a biblically correct yet underwater cherub…
Spiral
The spiral itself is an ancient symbol of growth, a journey and duality — is it moving inward or outward?
Escape Button
Adding a bit of cheeky tech iconography, the escape button represents a digital method of exit…with the push of a finger you can simply yeet! I think it’s giving Frutiger Aero aesthetic.
Chariot “Horses”
For this piece, the bulls on the ancient columns — Chapiteau de l’Apadana — represent the horse-drawn Cancer Card of the Tarot AKA The Chariot. This piece was started during the Cancer zodiac season and channels the desire for movement and flow.
Merkaba(h)s
The sacred geometry of a star tetrahedron is said to be a vehicle of light. Harkens back to the movement of The Chariot and stretches it into astral travel.
Sunburst
This side panel design radiates truth and light. It wraps the shrine in the warm promise of a new day and strength of luminosity.
Me holding Rapture + dictating the video version of these symbols and their meanings :) While I was constructing this piece I intended to name it Revelations as I was experiencing new levels of spiritual sight and emotional clarity in my relationships. It’s also a play on the book of Revelation which is interpreted to contain the message of The Rapture by some. Simultaneous with the completion of this piece, “The Rapture” began to trend on Tik Tok and I couldn’t help but add my softer depiction of the scene to the conversation as well... Which name do you think is most fitting?
