Symbology Guide Series: Listen, Listen Shrine

The Symbology Guide Series is an up-close look into the intentionally chosen iconography and symbolic features that make each altar shrine I craft a unique portal piece. Here we will dissect the details and explore the imagery of Listen, Listen.

Symbol Guide: Limes, Rainbows, Trillium Flowers, Lady of Baza

Listen, Listen is a custom birth shrine constructed for a sweets sister whose inspiration of song I briefly described in the Preparing to Be Crone blog. The theme surrounds protections and blessings over the birthing portal and postpartum period. Let’s look at the signature symbolism woven into this piece.

⊹⊹⊹

Lady of Baza Collage

Lady of Baza

An ancient Iberian limestone sculpture from 350 BCE. As a funerary urn, she sits on a winged throne that symbolizes divinity. It is told that in the tomb where she was found, four sets of weapons and armor laid at her feet as offerings and for afterlife protection. She holds a pigeon in one hand.

Rainbow Arc

This symbol was placed to acknowledge this mother’s vibrant journey of hopeful conception and heartbreaking loss. There is beauty after the storm. A reminder that her vessel is a connector of worlds.

Trillium Flower Symbolism

Birthroot Trillium Flowers

Associated with recovery, protection and the divine feminine. This slow-growing plant represents the life-giving aspects the goddess and mother figures. The trio of petals may embody past, present and future – the cycle of life. The root has been used traditionally to induce labor, ease childbirth, control postpartum bleeding, and soothe menstrual discomfort.

Limes

This fruit represents juicy fertility and flourishing abundance. Carries a humble yet refreshing citrus energy.

Listen, Listen Lyrics

Echos of Grandmother Song she called in the Mermaid Temple at 37 weeks.

Give birth, give life, mother…

Four Dot Diamonds

A celebration and representation of her core (human) family unit. The numerology of four points to strength, stability and practical wisdom. It highlights a life of service.

Listen, Listen in its full glory — throned in front of flourishing cronewort.
