Why Teaching Spiritual Protection Thru Plants Matters
This year at Red Earth: The Mountain West Women’s Herbal Gathering I’ll be returning to teach. My first class of the weekend, Plants for Protection, covers a topic dear to my personal magic practices and family safety.
I’m enamored with the clever way plants are nourishing for the physical body and also supportive to our spiritual well-being. Due to the nature of Cronewort’s intuition-wise and dream-enhancing magic, two of my classes offered at Red Earth Herbal Gathering this year present an opening into portals of protection.

Why protection? Because it’s an asset to self-preserve, meaningfully adapt, and grow our capacity for community relations. It’s valuable to employ auric armor against harmful energies, maintain psychic security and fortify subtle energy support.
As wise women know, intuition itself is a line of protection so, how do you in-fact protect that? Cronewort is one ally but of course, there are others.
Developing plant guardianship is mitigation for shadow work and initiations into the mystery or darkness. Shadows are portals themselves and the ability proactively tend to threats through relationship with plants is a worthy pursuit.
My intention for teaching this material at the 2026 Red Earth: Mountain West Women’s Herbal Gathering is to encourage more women, children and families to incorporate rituals of protection as a regular form of spiritual hygiene. It’s true, my privileges provide a barrier from physical violence in my day to day life. It is also true that foundational plant prayer practices cover me with layers of confidence and power. They allow me to hold a field that is secure and sound.
In the Plants for Energetic Protection class, I will share various methods for activating and applying botanical buffers for personal and community care. This type of shield, that’s seeded in earth ways, can be beneficial for anyone yet is especially essential for those who walk through life with an open heart or engage in healing work.
I prioritize ritual plant protection because I was not energetically protected as a child. This vulnerability led to spiritual and sexual harm that I continue to counterbalance today. One of the ways I care for my inner child, my own children and my adult self is to take responsibility for my energy reserve and deeply protect it. The Plants for Protection class reflects the culmination of my reclamation.
Protection takes many forms + may be applied in layers. If you’ve not yet enlisted plants as an intentional part of your plan, this ritual-centered class will uncover a number of herbal allies and their role in energetic protection.
I’m also sharing an aspect of plant protection inside the Girls Grove with the Mugwort Mandala activity. Through a craft, they’ll be guided to stay true. We will craft an eye-shaped emblem of symbolic protection that carries the grandmotherly love of mugwort. Girls will be invited to create layers of meaning with the dreamy wisdom of through clearly knowing and naming what she cherishes.
It’s deeply delightful to return to Red Earth Herbal Gathering for a 7th year of attendance. This community is where I matured with women, the plants and wisdom. Sending out much love and grace for each of our journeys toward that weekend.
